Dr Jen and Kate recently went along to a seminar that explored many of the aspects of mood disorders

What the seminar really highlighted, was that there are an incredible number of factors that could be contributing to low mood, depression or anxiety, we can’t just single-out serotonin anymore!

Because these factors are so intimately connected, focusing on just one of those, like in a more conventional approach, just isn’t enough.

Our nutrition team have always taken a holistic approach to wellbeing, so this information didn’t really come as a surprise, but has spurred our thirst for knowledge even more!

Volleyball requires athletes to perform repetitive powerful movements. Including weight training to your program is essential in developing safe and controlled movement patterns as a base for the powerful movements.

The dumbbell pull over develops core and overhead strength in a similar pattern commonly used in volleyball. This movement develops the strong base position to build a powerful shot.

Bicep curl and press is incorporated in a program to develop shoulder strength. Strong shoulders reduce the risk of injury of the upper limb and provide the base for a powerful shot.

A depth jump is a great exercise for lower body power development and landing mechanics. Volleyball requires high jumping repetitions, therefore building tolerance to load while improving strength will result is improved performance.
